Carter Laney was born in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2002, he took classes and studied under portrait artist Mark Carder, and, inspired by Carder's work, has since been working hard to paint beautiful portraits in oil. Focusing on composition, light, and capturing the likeness and personality of his subjects, Laney enjoys the unique challenge and newness of every portrait.

Since his first portrait, Laney has remained busy with a back log of commissions. He says he "looks forward to the challenge of making each consecutive portrait the best painting I have ever done."
